Random Quick Post Containing Many Thanks to io9

Hi!  If you’ve found your way here via io9′s post about the Nineosphere, thanks for visiting!  This spot is still new and I’ve been busy lately so haven’t had a chance to do too much with it yet, but things are planned.

I appreciate io9 writing about us, and it’s great that for a little community group that sprang up on their comment boards, we have been supported by the staff.  It’s wonderful!  Annalee herself has even contributed a couple stories.  io9 has an awesome community, fostered by an awesome staff and this little writing sector of it has thrived.

The Roll Calls and the Searchable Nineosphere are late with updates–I’ve been busy the past couple weeks preparing a story to submit to an anthology (which I did yesterday, yay!)  There are lots of archives to go through, however, and at this point about 200 stories posted.  There will be more (lots more!) once I get caught up this weekend.

Again, thanks for stopping by, and please enjoy the works from my fellow Niners.  All of them deserve support and recognition for the brilliant hard work they put in, every week for free.  I expect someday you’ll see many of their names in lights.  And by lights I mean under a reading light on the cover of a book.  Cheers to all, and I hope you’ll stick around to keep an eye on this growing collection I’m so honored to be able to curate.

New Roll Call with new stories, and more awesome news

The latest Roll Call has arrived, bearing gifts of fine fiction from Niners.  The Searchable Nineosphere has also been updated.  Check it out!  There’s now a series column so if you get hooked on a series you can start at the beginning.

With this, let us hope the Roll Calls do not fall so egregiously behind again!

If you haven’t been here before, this is the spot where the Niner Fiction Canon resides, a central repository for mini-reviews of and links to stories by io9 community members.  We do this twice a week!  If you like fiction, enjoy.  It’s all free and very good.

Another Nineosphere!

Wow, so I just out of curiosity Googled “Nineosphere” to see if I had stolen it from anyone accidentally, and SURPRISE I did!  There’s an actual site called Nineosphere which is filled with BEAUTIFUL art.  Check it out, and I hope that Nine isn’t too mad, because honestly it never once crossed my mind until today that the word “Nineosphere” would exist anywhere else.

Welcome to the Nineosphere!

After fiddling around all morning and having wanted to do this for a while, I have managed to create a home of its own for the Niner Fiction Canon.  The Nineosphere is its own site now (kinda–it’s in a subdomain!) and since I am such a nice lady it can be accessed at http://nineosphere.alphabete-noir.com or http://niners.alphabete-noir.com because who besides me wants to type “nineosphere” a bunch of times?  I’m taking suggestions for more subdomain/redirects in case someone thinks of something even shorter.

To keep track of updates, RSS is in the footer until I move it.  I want a cute little RSS symbol so clearly that’s going to take forever.

Many (many) thanks to Saul Cozens for helping me get this WordPress multi-site going after I was tearing out my hair in frustration.  He randomly contacted me when I was bemoaning my troubles on Twitter (follow him he’s cool) and generously un-broke it.  You are much appreciated, sir.

Thanks also to Jonathan Martin AKA Niner Myseri for the AWESOME header image and the equally kickass “about page” text.  Check him out, he’s a great writer and a really nice guy.

Muchas gracias in addition to the leaders of io9, who have created such a great place for the Niner community to grow and have encouraged and even occasionally participated in the writing of short stories.  Annalee, Charlie Jane, et. al, thank you for being so supportive!

Thanks also to ZoFreX, who was so sweet and kind and made me a clever PHP script to convert the titles of the stories in the Searchable Nineosphere to clickable links without having to handcode hrefs.  This speeded up the process of formatting the latest Roll Call considerably.  He is the man, but no, you cannot have him he is mine mine mine.

Please check out the writings by my fellow Niners.  They work hard to bring some great short fiction, week after week, sometimes twice a week.  Check out their sites, leave feedback, and keep an eye out.  Some of these guys and gals are flexing their muscles now so they can go pro in the future.  They all deserve whatever support can be given to them.

I’ve got some plans for the future, which will include Niners themselves being able to update the archive, a series of interviews with willing authors, and author pages/series pages for those who might become interested in knowing more about an author or series.  I’m taking suggestions for anything else as well.  This site is fresh and spankin’ new so it’ll take time, and let’s say nothing about my schedule.

This is a labor of love for me and I love being able to encourage fellow writers and then to get to reader their awesome (free) fiction.  I hope you do too.  Enjoy, and tell your friends!
