The What?

The Sphere floated about a foot from the cracked ground, glowing in the fire that enveloped it, the internal storm raging eternally.  Where it had resided had once been a lush grassland, but the heat it put off had baked the area, now known as the Sahara Desert, and had drawn the sun’s rays down, scorching the ground even further.

It had tried revealing itself to the planet’s inhabitants once before.  It had wanted to share its information, its vast knowledge with the people, as they called themselves, and had presented that knowledge in an open format available to all.  The Internet.  But the knowledge had become quickly lost, and the people had taken to using this wonderful device, this integrated network, this vast store of knowledge, for causing grief.

The Internet had grown too powerful, and the Sphere had no hope of shutting down its own invention.  But it did have hope.

It had developed this new creation over the last nine centuries, hoping to inspire the people instead of dividing them.  Released upon the world, the device was called “The Nineosphere.”
